A BEAUTIFUL ISLAND
Not very many know much about. Ocean Island, but a visitor to Christchurch, Mrs Addison, wife of the caplain of the good ship Kintyre, paints a picture of a kind of Eden with the serpent apparently excluded, says an exchange.
It is about 100 miles or so from the Gilbert Group and the British Phosphates Company has a station there.
On this little island there are about 200 inhabitants. Owing to the nature of the soil there are no fresh vegetables to be had, but weigh against a cabbage the delights of a semi-tropical climate, the heat tempered by a cool breeze, sparkling seas, luxuriant foliage, and no unemployment problem.
