Miss Elsie Mac Kay’s Popularity

Among the last acts of kindness performed by the Hon. Elsie Mackay before she left her home in Gienapp to venture upon the ill-fated Atlantic flight was to present a young gardener, who had just completed his apprenticeship on Lord Inchcape’s estate, with a pound note and a wristlet watch. Miss Mackay’s many acts of kindness are now the subject of reminiscence in village, farmhouse and cothouse. Sympathy with Lord and Lady Inchcape is general, and for weeks after the flight children at the local school still asked their teachers every morning for news of Miss Elsie.
