In the Dominion
A mass meeting of Palmerston North citizens last night passed a resolution in favour of the introduction of BiMo teaching into the curriculum of the primary schools.
The crew of the American steamer Golden Coast, which has arrived at Auckland from Pacific Coast ports of America, claim to have among them the tallest and shortest men now at sea. “Slim,” a deck boy, lays claim to a height of 6ft Pin. Angus, a seaman, is but 4ft. high.
Scathing criticism of the state of affairs prevailing in the Dominion was voiced in the Hunterville Presbyterian Church by Miss McKee, of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union, on Sunday. “They call this God’s Own Country, when the average boy only knows the name of God as a swear word,” she. declared. “The Bible is shut out of our schools, and while a mere handful attend Sunday School the remainder are practically compelled to be ignorant of the groat Biblical truths. Yes!” she concluded, “it is a ridiculous misnomer to call this 4 God’s Own Country! ’ ”
