SKINS AND HIDES
SALE AT WELLINGTON. The Wellington brokers report: The fortnightly sale of sheepskins and hides took piace on Friday. Competition was fairly animated at prices about on a par with last sale’s level. Dry sheepskins were in strong demand, especially sound pelted lots hhowing a fair length of wool, which were, if anything, a little harder and showed a tendency towards higher prices. Hides were iiriu, especially for medium, and light* weight cows. Tallow met a decidedly firmer market, and lots in shipping order were keenly competed for at an advance on last sale’s rates. Following is the range of prices:— Dry Sheepskins.—Halfbred, 15$d to fine crossbred, 14$d to 18d; medium crossbred, 13d to 17|d; coarse crossbreds, 12$d to 151; half wools, 10|d to quarter wools, to pelts, BJd to 13jd. Salted Skins. —Quarter wools, 4s to 8s 7d; half wools, 8s 5d to 10s 8d; three-quarter wools .8s lOd to Ils 6d; full wools, 9s 2d to 13s Id; extra large,‘ to 12s 9d; lambs, 2s lOd to 9s. Hides. —Ox, 45 to 521bs 7 5-8 d to 10id, 53 to 591bs lOd to 6O to 69 lbs, 10|d to 10$d, 701bs and over lOd to lid; cow, 33 to 391bs 7 5-8 d to 11 3-Bd, 40 to 481bs B|d to 10jd, 491bs and over 9 3-8 d to 10 5-8 d; kip, 25 to 321bs, 9 5-8 d to 10 5-Bd, 17 to 241bs, 9 5-8 d to 104cL; yearling, 11 to 161bs, 9}d to 113 d; Calf, 9 to lOlbs 6d to lid, 6 to 81bs 12d to 17d, 1 to 51bs, 6d to 15 7-Bd. Tallow —In casks, 24s to 29s 6d; in tins, etc., 23s 3d to 27s 6d Sundries. —Cow tails, 20d; horse hair, 20d to 25} d.
