A BROKEN WINDOW
OPERA GLASSES TAKEN SMART WORK BY DETECTIVES. L Per Press Association ] NEW PLYMOUTH, June 24. A plategiass window in front of the jeweller’s shop of Virtue Dalgleish, was found broken by a constable about three o’clock this morning. Some jewellery was obviously missing. A short time previously a nightwatchman and a constable had seen a man nearby. Detective Moiklejohn visited various boardinghouses and eventually arrested a man who gave the name of Horatio Mortimer, aged 40, a native of the Argentine. A search of the clothing in a room he occupied with another man, revealed two pairs of opera glasses and four strings of pearls. As a result of further inquiries the detectve found in another place, four pairs of binoculars and one pair of opera glasses, the total value of the goods being £5l 13a. In the same window, divided only by a glass petition, was much valuable jewellery, which appeared to bo untouched. ________
