A BAD SMASH
TRAIN DERAILED Track Damaged and Service* Delayed CATTLE TRUCKS TELESCOPED. I Per Press Association J PUKEKOHE, June 23. Through a goods train, Auckland bound, oeing derailed shortly after 6 o’clock this morning about two miles north of Pukekohc, 33 trucks were piled in au indescribable mess. I Six trucks Jaden with catLlo telescoped, a number of the animals being . kihed and others dying, while a num- | ber with broken backs and legs neces'sitated their destruction. | One waggon left the rails about a i quarter of a mile south of the scene, 'and was dragged this distance, the [others telescoping it. | The railway track was torn up for [three chains, with twisted sleepers and i broken rails.
All the trains are held up out th< Weiiington-Auckiand ordinary expresi preceded the ill-fated goods. Passengers and goods are being transferred at Pukekoho and Paerata. It is expected that the line will bo cleared to-night.
