A BY-LAW CASE MAGISTRATE PROTECTS PROFESSION. [ Per Press Association ! AUCKLAND, June 8. When the town clerk of Onehunga appeared on behalf of an informant in a by-law case at the Onehunga Police Court this morning, the Magistrate, Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., said that he was unable to allow lay people to take the placej of solicitors. The profession must be protected. The Town Clerk: But I am duly authorised to appear on behalf of the Borough Council. The Magistrate: I cannot allow it. A duly authorised solicitor should appear on behalf of the informant. The town clerk stood down.
