HOCKEY [ Per Press Aa«ocXatfcn. 1 The hockey competitions were resumed on Thursday before a fair attendance. Climatic conditions were favourable and some interesting contests eventuated. In the ladies’ matches Pakeha secured a decisive victory over Huia an A Utiku defeated Old Girls by one goal to nil. The men’s match resuited in a win for Y.M.C. over Pakeha. Detailed results are as follows: Pakeha 5, Huia 0. The following scored goals for the winners:—M. Currie, Mrs Thurston, H. Wapp (2), I?. Wanp (!)• Utiku 1, Old Girls 0. Mrs Gardner scored for Utiku? Men: Y.M.C. 4, Pakeha 3. Joll (2), Healey and Robinson scored for the winueis and Dripps, Thomas and Patrick retted goals for the losers. FARMERS’ BALL The Rangitikei Agricultural and Pastoral Association heli its annual bull in the Town Hall on Thursday evening and as in former years thure • was a large number of people present. •' The ballroom was artistically decorated with streamers from which balloons were suspended and with ferns, cabbage trees and other greenery. Stewart and R. Anderson. Taking all things into consideration the function can be written down as one of the most successful in the history of the Rangitikei A. and P. Association which is to be heartily congratulated on making the 1928 farmer’s ball an event long to be remembered. GENERAL NEWS. The Hautapu football team to play Pirates to-day will be Lelievre, Thomas. Hall, Evans. Keating, McLennan, Healey, Beiliss, Sinclair, Butler, Fannin, Stone, Mair, Appleton, Waterhouse. Mrs T. C. Kincaid was a passenger on the 10.15 a.m. train yesterday. Mrs H. M. Hay has been admitted to a private hospital. Mr and Mrs H. Morrison are leaving Taihape shortly to take up their residence in Gisborne. Mr D. Scott left for the South yesterday morning. Mr and Mrs G. Durrant and family are leaving on Wednesday for Hawke’s Bay, where they will spend a few weeks’ holiday. Miss E. M. McFarlane (Auckland) is staying with friends in Taihape. KING S THEATRE PICTURES Another three bil programme shows at the King’s to-night. “Somebody’s Sou.” a U.F.A. production is a production worth going far to sec. Mady Christians, the charming Princess Alix from “Waltz Dream, ” Willy Fritsch, Lieutenant “Nick,’’ from the same feature, Eddie Burns, well-known America and Australia, Pauline Garon, an equally famous Holiywoodian, and Lillian Hall Davis, the famous English actress, lead an imposing cast in this truly wonderful picture. “Singed” featuring Blackie Sweet, Warner Baxter and AL.ry McAllister is a flaming drama of the new West, with its old passions. No 7 of “The Collegians” entitled “The Relay” is also on this programme. “Somebody’s Son” with “The Collegians” and supports show at matinee. CHARLIE CHAPLIN IN TAIHAPE. On Saturday next, at the King’s Theatre. Taihape, Charlie Chaplin appears in his latest picture, “The Circus.’’ It consists of seven reels and [ is without doubt one of the best entertainers of the year. A special matinee will be held at I.4s,.concluding in time for the south train to be caught.
