CYCLIST’S TERRIBLE INJURIES CAR FAILS TO STOP. [ Per Press Association T CHRISTCHURCH, April 22. A young man named Rowland Bedford, aged 23 years, was killeo by being struck and run over by a motor car near Ashburton on Saturday night. Bedford was riding a motor cycle with another young man named Johnson. who was in the side car, and was going from Rakaia to Ashburton. About eight miles from Ashburton a motor car, driven at a furious ] acq, tore past another cat, which was slowing up, and crashed into the mo-' tor cycle, continuing on its journey without stopping and leaving Bedford dead on the road. Johnston escaped injury. Bedford’s injuries were dreadful. His head was crushed, his neck broken, a boot torn off a leg and foot lacerated. Death was instantaneous. It is strtec. that the police hope to make an arrest shortly, and that the car was a stolen one.
