The preliminary expenses of the Shantung expedition amounts to 1,426,000 yen and garrisoning expenses arc expected to reach 6,000,UD0 yen lyDespite the fact that the Peking Foreign Minister on Friday formally protested against the Shantung expedition to the Japanese Minister, Yoshizawa, it is noticeable that all Chinn dispatches indicate that the Peking Government is suddenly becoming most friendly to Japan, Mukden authorities yesterday even returning all the South Manchuria railway rolling stock which has long been in dispute since it was loaned to the Chinese Tacna n-Anganchi line.
