BLACK MONDAY
TROUBLES OF PEREPE RIOTOUS BEHAVIOUR IN HOTEL BAR. Monday, April .16, must, surely be regarded by Morehu Perepe or Alfred Phillips, as a black day of his career. It was in the bar of the Rutland Hotel that, his riotous beliavour was sufficient to be regarded with disfavour by the law. Constable J. McAlpine arrested Perepe and he appeared yestenday in the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court before Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., charged with behaving in a threatening manner and with using obscene language. Perepe, who is well known in Wanganui and has figured in several Maori pageants and concert parties, was exremely penitent and elected to be dealt with summarily. Mr Barton: I am seeking to help you by issuing a prohibition order. Do yon consent to that? Accused: Yes. sir. Air Barton: Where are you living? Accused: I have just come down from the country. My home is at Putiki. On Perepe’s consent a prohibition order was made and on tho two charges he was convicted and will appear for sentence to-day.
