The rugged road that newspaper founders have to tread was exemplified on Saturday when the Whangarei Daily News, which made its de.but about 15 months ago, ceased publication.
A fire In the engine-room of the auxliary scow Scot nt the Albert Wharf (Auckland), on Friday night overheated the benzine tank so that the contents almost boiled, and there wag danger of an explosion in the benzine store. This was averted Dy prompt action by the fire brigade. The damage is only about £lOO.
Of four waterside disputes referred to it by the National Disputes Committee the Arbitration Court has reserved its decision regarding three affecting Wellington. The fourth wan whether Auckland employers should adopt the amended Wellington, scale for working hot coal. The Court referred this matter back to tne National Committee to allow Auckland to have a say in the matter.
