BOXING
LOCAL ACTIVITIES SCHOOLS RE-OPENING A movement is on foot to re-estab-lish the boxing association in Wanganui and a meeting of all those interested will bo advertise/! in the “Chronicle” at an early date. This same movement is afoot in Palmerston North. The new association will be named ,lhe New Wanganui Amateur Boxing Association. Tom Souter will open his school on Monday next and the classes will be held every Monday and evenings thereafter. j Roy Forward intends joining the 'professional ranks. Gus Carlson and Sedon Gray will be going to the New Zealand championships at Aucklcnd this year and are getting into shape good and early. Charlie Cann, the retired bantam professional champion is keeping in trim but has no intention of entering the ring again. Cann still tips the scales at bantam limit. Beg. Mackay, the ■well known jockey is the live wire in the formation of the New Manawatu Boxing Association and has quite a good school at Awapuni, for the jockey boys, Alan Murray (7st.) is considered to have no equal at his weight in the country.
Manawatu is staging an amateur tournament in Palmerston on April 18 when Morgan and Cleary the two New Zealand champions will be boxing. There will also be a number of Wanganui boys from Souter’s school.
