GENERAL NEWS.

At a recent meeting of Maoris held in the Fire Brigade Hall it was decided to form a Maori football team to participate in the senior competition. The Ngawaka School picinc was held on Mr M. Swenson's property at Ngawaka on Thursday. A most attractive programme had been arranged, and the secretaries (Messrs G. V. Gray, and V. O. Kelly) worked like Trojans, with the result that the functions was an outstanding success. Duncheon and afternoofi tea was provided free. Hunterville defeated Taihape by ten points in the final of the Rangitikei Shield competition played at Marton on Thursday. The green is reported to have been very fast. The main picture is Fox’s “Secret Studio.” This is a story of the lives, loves and adventures of artists and models of the Latin Quarter of New York, and gives a vivid picture of the younger generation. Olive Borden is cast in the role of Rosemary Merton ,tho girl who thought she was wise enough to avoid the lures and pitfalls of Greenwich Village. In support is a story of English life entitled “The Squire of Long Hadley.” An O. Henry comedy and latest gazette are also included. VALEDICTORY On Wednesday evening Mr and Mrs M. C. Harrington, who are leaving Taihape shortly to take up their residence in Wellington, were bidden farewell at a dance held under the auspices of the Railway Tennis Club, of which Mr Harrington is patron. The function which was thoroughly enjoyed by a large gathering, took place in the Railway Hall. The floor was in good order and the crowd danced to mus?e supplied by Messrs. G. Smeeton, H. Hartley and W. Godfrey, extras being played by Miss C. Dickinson, Miss Deerey and Miss F. Dickinson. Mr A. A. Smith carried out the duties of M.C. and Mesdames Gamby, Bowie, Barrowman, Godfrey, T. Blockley and Griffen had charge of the supper arrangements. During an interval Mr S. Gamby, president of the Railway Tennis Club, said the function had been organised for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr and Mrs Harrington, who had fostered the interests of the club in a manner which left nothing to be desired. The office of patron was in some clubs purely a nominal one out such was not the ease as far as the Railway Tennis Club was concerned as Mr Harrington had taken a very active part in its affairs and members regretted his approaching departure. He had been ably supported by Mrs Harrington, whose work on behalf of the club was greatly appreciated. Mr and Mrs Harrington had always taken a leading part in all social functions organised by the club, which was also indebted to Mrs Har-
