PERSONAL. [ Special *' Chronicle ” Service ] Mr and Mrs M. Dcighton, Kawhatau, left for New Plymouth, Mrs F. E. Wilson is spending a few weeks in Auckland. Mr and Mrs H. C. Speedy, Kawhatau, have returned from their holiday. Mr and Mrs Davidson have returned from their holiday spent at New Plymouth. Mr Foster from the Railways head office, Wellington, has taken Mr A. E. Lowe’s place as stationmaster. Mr A. C. Hall, Ruahine, has returned from Wanganui. VALEDICTORY. Mr A. E. Lowe, stationmaster, who has been transferred to Clyde, Hawke’s B#y, was given a farewell by his many friends in Mangaweka. Mr Lowe, who for the past three years, has been stationed here, made a wide circle of friends, and will bo missed in all sports and social activities in which he took part. Mr Lowe was presented with a handsome leather suitcase. KITCHEN TEA. Miss M. Dennis was the guest of honour last night at the Kawhatau Hall, where her many friends entertained her to a kitchen tea prior to her approaching marriage to Mr R. Lewis of Lower Hutt. The evening was spent in dancing, and the large gathering (more than the hall could hold) showed the popularity of Miss Dennis. The gifts for kitchen use filled more than two huge baskets. Mr T. Dennis spoke on behalf of Miss Dennis and thanked all present, and a very happy evening closed by singing “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” SPORTING BODIES. Tennis, croquet., and bowls arc nearing the end of the season. The tennis courts have been very dull lately, Saturday being the only day patronised. Croquet and bowls arc still very keen, matches are still being played on both greens. But the end of this month will sec the final games played. The Saturday Croquet mathes which have drawn a good crowd each week shows three members even for the winning points. Mesdames W. Davidson, L. A. Bailey and Mr A. Bailey all 5 games. MANGAWEKA FOOTBALL CLUB. There was a good attendance of footballers and supporters at the annual meeting held on Wednesday evening. Mr .1. Graham presided. Shaw, who was president last season, was eulogised by Air J. Graham and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Air Shaw for his past services.
