“THE ROAD TO YESTERDAY.”

I Special “Chronicle” Service. ] Reincarnation is the theme of the story of “The Road to Yesterday,'’ which will be screened ut the Marton Town Hall to-morrow (Saturday) evening, and it has been handled by Air do Alille with all the subtle artistry for which he is famous. For the train wreck scene, a special track was built and as re-takes were impossible Air de Alille stationed a battery of cameramen strategically so that when the spectacular tragedy occurred, it was filmed from every angle. Not a worth-while feature of the sequence was eliminated.

MARTON GOLF CLUB.

At the annual general meeting of the Golf Club the following report was read and adopted:— “The finances of the club, as disclosed by the figures in the balancesheet, show the preponderance of assets over liabilities to be £3ll 13s 3d, revealing a gain of £47 14s 2d for the year, after making provision for deprejeiation on buildings, furniture and plant of £36 in all. AVe commenced J the season with a debit balance of £lO 6s 3d, and out of revenue have repaid the sum of £25 to debenture holders, so, with the club's balance at credit of £2l 15s 7d it will, no doubt be conceded that the affairs of the club are in a very wholesome state. The debentures, 16 in number, now owing by the club to members, amount to the sum of £<Bo, and this committee recommends that half of these debentures be ballotted for at this meeting and repaid from the ensuing year’s revenue. An electric urn, £9 ss, and lawn mower, £l6 10s, were acquired during the season. The membership list, as it now stands is:—sB ladies, 56 men. Throughout the off-season the links have been maintained in good order and are now in a fit and proper state for commencement of the approaching season. The winners of the club’s main events during the past season were:—Ladies' championship, Aliss Gaisford; men’s championship, Air Christensen; ladies’ junior championship. Airs J. G. Simpson; Tutaenui Handicap. Air Fenwick; L. G. U. silver medal, Airs Crawford; L.G.U. bronze medal, Aliss Baldwin. To the members who generously donated trophies for competitions during the season the club expresses its warmest appreciation and thanks.” The recommendation of the committee that half of the debentures be repaid was discussed, an amendment proposed by Air F. J. Christensen, seconded by Air IT. L. AVilson, “That the whole, sum be repaid,” being eventually carried. Election of Officers. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as fojlows:—President. Mr J. F. Miles; captain. Air F. J. Christensen; secretary and treasurer, Air Al. N. Atkinson; auditor, Air D. B. Brown; committee, Alessrs 8. A. Glover, .T. R. L. Stanford, Al. C. Fenwicke, H. E. Young and A. FullertonSmith. At a committee meeting later subcommittees ■were appointed as follows: Grounds Committe, Air AT. C. Fcnwicko; match committee, Alessrs Young, Fullerton-Smith, and the captain; handicap committee, Alessrs Gover and Stanford. It was decided to place on record the club’s appreciation of the services of the honorary groundsman, Air F. L. Young, who has tendered his icsignation. Appreciation of the secretary's services was also recorded and both he and Air Young were voted honorariums. General. The question of opening day was discussed and the official opening will be held on April 21, but the season’s play will commence on April 1. It was decided as a recommendation to the incoming committee that the question of putting new tecs where required be reconsidered. A further recommendation was that the matter of building new greens be considered. The following now members were appointed:—Airs \T. 11. AlcLcan, Airs E. C. Gaisford, Miss AL AVatson, Aliss E. Alarshall, Air Moffatt and Dr. Dick. Air AL C. Fenwicke intimated to the committee that he would be donating a trophy for five rounds of stroke play, the best three net rounds to be. taken in an aggregate, the rounds to be spread over the season at the discretion of the match committee.

ATHLETIC FOOTBALL CLUB.

A special general meeting of the above football club was held on Tuesday evening, Air T. A. AVilson presiding over an enthusiastic attendance. Selectors and coaches were appointed for the coming season as follows: Senior selector, Air R. AVhale, captain and vice-captain to act in conjunction; coach, Air AfacNamara. Junior selector. Air Alahoney, captain and vicecaptain to act in conjunction; coach, Air Irving. Air Stewzrt was engaged for the carriage of the travelling team. A socia Icommittee 'as appointed as follows:—Alessrs J. AVindleburn, AV. Dobson, G. Grencwood, R. Baker, R. AVhale and P. Fogarty. It was decided to endeavour to arrange. a practice game with the Alarton Club at an < arly date.

AIARTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL The annual acquatic sports of the Alarton District High School were held in the municipal baths on AVedncsday afternoon. The fortnightly sitting of the. Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday before Air J. L. Stout, S.M. Thomas Berger was fined 5s and costs for riding a cycle at night without a light. L. Cannons, for riding a motor cycle without a license, was lined 10s and costs. For driving a car in a manner dangerous to the public, E. Forrest was fined £5 and £1 5s costs. The following service car drivers wore prosecuted, by Inspector Fowler for exceeding the speed limit on the Bids-Turakina Road and were .med as follows:—E. The final match for the Rangitikei Shield was played on the Alarton green yesterday between Taihape and Hunterville, and after a very exciting game Hunterville proved the winners.
