FORDELL

HORTICULTURAL SHOW.. The annual exhibition of tho Fordell Horticultural Society was held on Sat‘urday in the local hall. The attendance was not quite so largo as usual, but in most respects the success of the show was very gratifying to its promoters. No detail had been overlooked by the secretary, Air H. Campbell, whoso enthusiasm and long experience were again at the service of the Society. The refreshment arrangements were in capable hands, while a series of competitions added variety to the proceedings, and from all points of view tho show was most enjoyable to its many patrons. In the absence of Air Glenn, whoso apology was received, the show was formally declared open by Air J. Belton, who mentioned that the number of exhibitors was 154 with about 660 entries. In all but the decorative and the home industries sections tho registrations were heavier than at tho previous show, when the number of entries constituted a record. Considering the unfavourable character of the. season the quality of tho exhibits in the horticultural sections was very high. In the class for round potatoes, where all the awards fell to Mr A. J. Campbell, the success of this exhibitor was as exceptional as it was well merited. The peaches shown by Mrs Belton were also noteworthy in siz(j and quality. The line display of dahlias staged by Airs Paulding included the champion bloom “Airs Carl Selback. An unusual feature in the children’s section* was the culinary efforts of tho boys.
