NEWS OF THE DAY BUSHMAN INJURED [ Per Press Association. ] GISBORNE, Nov. 30. A bushman named Charles Taylor, aged 20, sustained injuries whilst working in the bush at Motu, and was admitted to hospital. FIREMAN FINED FOR ASSAULT AUCKLAND, Nov. 30. ' At the Police Court Arthur Hopper, aged 28, a fireman on the steamer Tofua, pleaded guilty to assaulting Haughton, the third engineer, on the high seas on November 18. While much under the influence of liquor he struck Haughton forcibly. Later he w r as prevented by the second engineer from using a knife on Haughton. Accused was fined £5. ANOTHER DRUNKEN MOTORIST WELLINGTON, Nov. 30. Coming round a corner, Charles Shelton, of Porirua, collided with a bus at Lower Hutt, and completely wrecked the front of his car. There were no personal injuries inflicted. Shelton was arrested and charged with being drunk while in charge of a motor. The justices convicted and fined him £lO, in default three months’ gaol, and his license was suspended till March, 1928. WOMAN THROWN FROM HORSE GISBORNE, Nov. 30. Mrs Polly Wattie, a married woman, was thrown from a horse at Kaiteratahi and admitted to hospital in a serious condition. WOOL CLASSER BURNED TO DEATH BLENHEIM, Nov. 30. Daniel George Moore, a wool-classer, about 60 years of age, lost his life during the night as a result of a tent in which he was sleeping, at F. W. Hillie’s Riverlands property, catching fire. No one witnessed the outbreak, but the tent was found smouldering with Moore’s body lying on his back. MAN THROWN THROUGH WINDSCREEN DUNEDIN, Nov. 30. Edward Callery, a single man living at Macrae’s Flat, was'taken to hospital this afternoon with injuries to his head. He was a passenger in a motor car bound for Macrae’s Flat and apparently the car ran down a hill and into a bank. The injured man was thrown through the windscreen.
