RACING AT RICCARTGN VEW ZEALAND OAKS TO-DAY. FILLIES’ CLASSIC FIELD. (By “Kestrel.”) The third day of the C.J.C. spring fixture, to-day, will see two weight-for-age races sharing popular interest, in spite of the fact that small fields are featured in both events. The New Zealand Oaks will see eight fillies contesting the event, and though one cannot describe them as the best of their age and sex in the Dominion during the present season there is bound to be keen interest in the race. A quartette of stayers figure in the Canterbury Cup. the longest flat race in the Dominion. What will please most racegoers is the fact that the champion racehorse. Limerick, will be seen in a: tion. The other fields are all well filled and some keen finishes should be a feature of the day’s racing. Bagby, trainer, and A. R. Parker, jockey, against the punishment inflicted by the Judicial Stewards of the Canterbury Jockey Club on Monday in connection with the pulling of Rowley in the Riecarton Handicap on Saturday were heard by the District Committee to-day. The Committee arrived at the follow-

ing decision: — The District Committee found that Bowley was deliberately pulled in the Biccarton Handicap on Saturday, and also that the trainer, R. S. Bagby, was responsible for the instructions issued to the jockey, A. B. Parker. As there was no evidence directly to implicate the owner, A. McDonald, and no evidence that he had backed any other horse in the race, the Committee exculpated McDonald, but dismissed the appeals of the trainer and the jockey.

The effect of the decision is that the two years’ disqualification imposed on McDonald has been wiped out, but the similar punishment on Bagby and one year ’s suspension on the jockey stand.
