BRACKET OF FOUR N.Z. Metropolitan Trotting Club Opens Fixture at Addington TRACK LIKE STOCKYARD SOME WELL-BACKED WINNERS The big Carnival week at Christchurch was advanced a further stage yesterday when the N.2>. Metropolitan Trotting Club opened its spring meeting at the Addington track. The N.Z. Cup was won by Kohara, one of a bracket of four which carried most money on the totalisator. The meeting will be continued, tomorrow and concludes on Friday. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 8. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting opened to-day. The weather was fine, but heavy rain had fallen during the night, and for the first three races, the third being the Cup, the track resembled a very muddy stockyard. This accounted for the very slow time in the Cup race. Almost immediately after the big event the track began to dry, and late in the day the going was fairly good. The crowd was very large, and the totalisator handled £72,776, against £67,741 10s last year, an increase of £5034 10s. Results:— SPRJNG HANDICAP. (Of 300 sovs. miles.) 3—Nelson McKinney, scr., R. Townley 1 2 Can nunball, 72yds bhd. —2 11—Duke Bingen, 60yds bhd. 3 Eight others started. Nelson McKinney led into the straight, followed by Cannonball, R-eal the Great and Duke Bingen, and held his lead to win by two lengths, with half a length between second and third. Time, 3.49.

ST. ALBAN’S HANDICAP. (Of 300 sovs. One mile.) 9 —Auguste Dillon, 24 yds bhd., F. C. Price 1 I—Jewel Pointer, 36yds. 2 10 Bingen Lad, scr. 3 Eleven others started. Auguste Dillon was first into the straight and went on to win from the favourite, Jewel Pointer, by two lengths, with Bingen Lad a length away, third. Final McKinney was fourth. Time, 2,15 2-5.

NEW ZEALAND CUP. (Of 3000 sovse.; 4.28 class. Two miles).

Passing the stands the first time Logan Chief, Peter Bingen, Escapade, Audacious, Black Admiral, Kohara, Talaro, Great Hope and Loganwood was the order. The positions were unchanged along the back, but rounding the top Kohara had moved into second place, with Man o’ War fourth. Logan Chief and Kohara led Peter Bingen, Man o’ War, Black Admiral, Escapade, Great Hope and Loganwood past the stands the last time, with Great Bingen last. Going along the back the last time, Logan Chief and Kohara were still in command from Peter Bingen, Man o’ War, Black Admiral and Great Hope, with Cardinal Logan coming fast. At the straight entrance Man o’ War and Kohara were leading Prince Pointer and Cardinal Logan, and Kohara went on to win by two lengths from the fast-finishing Cardinal Logan, with Man o’ War another two lengths away, third. Great Bingen was half a length away, fourth, with Prince Pointer fifth. Times, 4.46 3-5, 4.48, 4.46 2-5.

Three furlongs from home Author Jinks and William the Great led Trimmer and Jewel Pointer.
