FOR A HOSTEL

THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE SITE GRANTED BY CITY COUNCIL A clause in the Local Legislation Bill, introduced' this week in the House of Representatives, authorises the Wanganui City Council to grant a lease of certain lands to the Wanganui Education Board as a site for the erection of a hostel for the Technical College. A yearly rental of £l5 is prescribed. This clause refers to a section in Purnell Street which the Council is turning over to the Education Board. Under the Municipal Corporations Act the Council had to apply for special powers to lease the property for all time.

The fixing of a nominal rental is in accordance with the Council’s policy of fostering and encouraging educational institutions in the city.
