THE TIN ONE FAILS

DOGS CATCH THE HARE RACES ABANDONED. LONDON, Oct. 23. An unusual incident caused the abandonment of the greyhound races at Southend on a recent evening. Through a defect in the mechanism the dogs caught the hare and ripped it to pieces. The defect was patched up, but on a trial run the electric motor which car* ries the hare crashed into a section of the track and tore it up. Bookmakers returned the money laid on the event, and the crowd was lined up by the police to receive back their admission money.
