LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
SCIENCE AND NATURAL LAW Sir, —Half a column of space is taken up by Mr Talbot endeavouring to prove his point of view about law and fact. It is no use arguing with, anyone who will not be convinced. Admitted that what we call laws are arrived at by generalisation, the result of a mental process, the fact remains that these controlling forces of nature have been in existence ever since the world began. Where did these forces come from? That is the point that Mr Talbot will not, or cannot, answer. The so-called blessings of science were seen to a great extent in the Great War, and we are promised more terrible, things in the next one. Where does Mr Talbot obtain his information from about Sir Oliver Lodge? I have had the pleasure of hearing Sir Oliver, and 1 think your correspondent must be mistaken. At the same time Mr Talbot docs not consider the main issue anl dodges the main question. Let Mr Talbot produce a liner philosophy than that contained in the New Testament, and I will forthwith subscribe to his association.
I take the opportunity of thanking you, Mr Editor, for allowing us the jse of your columns in this controversy. PLAIN JIMMY. November 2.
