SUMMER TIME
PICTURE THEATRE HOURS PROPOSED LATER RUNNING OF TEAMS. In Auckland the picture proprietors have decided to commence their shows at 8.30 p.m. in view of the Daylight Saving Act, and Wanganui managers will confer to-day to consider what action they will take. In the larger centres transport does not present any great problem, as the tram services run until 11 o’clock at least, but in Wanganui the trams would have to be held back for half an hour. .‘‘l am going to oppose running cars after 10.30,” said Councillor A. E. Halligan, chairman of the Tramways Committee, to a ‘‘Chronicle” man yesterday. “We should give the scheme a fair trial in every way and keep to the strict meaning of the Act. The theatres should go by the same hour of the clock they observe now —they did when I was in England during the observance of summer time, and they apparently lost nothing by it. “We would have to pay double time to our own men,” continued Mr Halligan, “and we would lose badly by it. We want to be fair *to them too; as it is they don’t get to bed until 12 o’clock now. The Tramway Committee has not considered the matter yet, but it is probable that double fares will have to be charged after 10.30 o ’clock. ’ ’
