BOROUGH COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held on Thursday evening, i when there was present: the Mayor (Mr W. H. Sandford), councillors, A. W. Ash well, E. Fagg, A. G. Laloli, XV. Harris, G. Anderson, L. J. Vile, H. Reiper and R. Higley. Mesrs A. J. Windle and A. B. Harris representing the Waimarino A.P.N. and I. Assocation waited upon the Council seeking the remission of rates on the show grounds. They pointed out that there had been a severe loss on the last two shows. It was decided to remit half the rates for the current year, and to review the question of a further remission when the Council had been advised of the financial position of the association alter its next show. In reply to the Council’s letter in reference to the bitumen softening in the warm weather, the liquidator of British Pavements Ltd. wrote- advising the Council to spread a coat of line uniform chips over the road and pathways. Regarding weeds growing through the pathways, the following mixture wa» recommended: —Lb white arsenic, caustic soda, 1 gallon water and after boding, dilute with 4 gallons of water. The .Electrical Engineer’s reported that the main generating plant had fune tinned satisfactorily during the month. Considerable line work had been carried out. Angle poles on the Ohakune road hud been replaced considerably increasing the cost of overhauling the line. The pump requires an overhaul. Tn ; t~s pruseiit condition, it was a serious menace in the event of a big fire within the borough. The fire engine was in good order and condition. Block II Raetihi township. The treasurer’s statement of accounts, amounting to £1421 14s 4d, was passed for payment.
