BOMB OUTRAGE
TO DESTROY EVIDENCE? SATURDAY’S BRISBANE EXPLOSION. (A. and N.Z.) BRISBANE, Aug. 15. It is now believed that the explosion which wrecked the Criminal Investigation Department office in Elizabeth Street on Saturday night was the result of an attempt to destroy evidence in a robbery case upon which the detectives have been working for weeks past. It is believed that a bomb was thrown through the window of the room where stolen goods were kept. A small fire started but was quickly suppressed. No explosives were stored in the premises. Many of the records were destroyed, but these were mostly old and of little value. The windows in buildings nearby were shattered and the explosion was heard for miles around the city. Detective Burns, who was sleeping ©n the premises, was sent to hospital Buffering from severe shock.
