DRAMA WANTED

IN COMEDY REPERTOIRES WHAT MISS BRAMLEY HAS FOUND During her present New Zealand tour and when she last visited the Dominion, Miss Nellie Bramley, who opened a season in the Opera House last evening, has been playing comedy roles. She first made her name, however, with New Zealand theatre-goers in dramas such as ‘‘Leah Kleschna,’’ ‘‘The Lion and the Mouse,” and ‘‘Within tho Law,” and Miss Brantley has received so many requests to include a drama in her repertoire that it was decided to include ‘‘Camille,’’ Sarah Bernhardt’s great success, in the present season. ‘‘Camille’’ was presented in Auckland on Saturday night and was so great a success that Mr William Russell, manager of the company, told a “Chronicle” man that probably they would pay a return season in the South Island with this piece. Mr Russell has taken a 10 years’ lease of the Grand Opera House, Sydney, and Miss Bramley will play a season of six months there when the New Zealand tour is completed. At present the Frank 'Neill Comedy Company is playing ‘ ‘ Getting Gertie’s Garter” there. Mr Russell told the pressman that it had been suggested that Miss Nellie Stewart would play a season in New Zealand before long. He presented nor in “Sweet Nell of Old Drury” in Sydney last November, and ten policemen' were required to keep the public ebar of the tram rails outside the theatre. Miss Bramley made a success in “Romance” in Tasmania a few months ago, and in all probability she will playin this production when next she visits New Zealand.
