Mr. D. D. Milligan has been appointed honorary Child Welfare Officer for Wanganui, vice Mr. A. J. McEldowney. The Ven Archdeacon Creed Meredith leaves to-day for Wellington on diocesan business. He will return to Wanganui on Thursday. Guests at the Rutland Hotel include Messrs A. H. Oswin, A. Bennett (Auckland), Messrs R. Bezzant, J. D. Brosnan (Wellington), Mr Thomas H. Ball (Stratford), ami Mr E. J. Denys (Hawera). A Timaru message reports the death of Mr John Hardcastle, a veteran journalist, at one time editor of the South Canterbury Times, also the Timaru Herald. Deceased was for 43’ years on the latter paper as reporter, sijb-editor and editor. He was aged 80 years. Sir Alexander Phillips Muddiman, K.C.S.L, C.1.E., 1.C.5., has been appointed Governor of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh, in succession to Sir William Sinclair Marris, K.C.S.L, K.C.1.E., I.C.S. The latter was formerly a pupil of the Wanganui Collegiate School.
