HOSPITAL AFFAIRS
Sir, —I notice in Friday’s issue of your paper that “Ratepayer’* is complaining about the number of employees about the hospital, also the cost of administration, for the X-Rays Department. With regard to the former, I think il ßatepayer” is misunderstanding the position, because at present there are two contractors at work at the hospital in connection with the big water heating and steam cooking and kitchen enlargements, such work being done with a view of cutting down the costs of administration, and when this work is done “Ratepayer” will probably find only ,ono carpenter, plumber and painter about the institution doing jobbing work, and all other work done as it should be—by tender
Re the X-Rays Department which will form a large part of the institution when all the apparatus comes to hand, there is a very great deal of controversy amongst the ratepayers as to the necessity of employing more than one high-salaried man to run this Department for a long while to come, and from what “the man in the street” says there will be something probably doing in the matter at next meeting of the Board. ANOTHER RATEPAYER. June 10.
