FAMOUS DANCER
HURT ON STAGE KARSAVINA CARRIED CFF. LONDON, April in. Mme. Tamara Karsavina, the fainouw Russian dancer, met with a serious <ccident during her performance at the London Coliseum yesterday afternoon. She caught ■ her foot between that part of the stage which revolves aid the fixed flooring, with the result that she tore a tendon in her heel. She was carried off the stage by M. Anatol ■ Wilzak, her dancing partner. At the end of the scene, although in greet pain, she returned to take twn curtain calls, leaning heavily upon the aims of M. Wilzak and M. Ludmilla Schollar. who also appear with hv. The audience, realising that something was amiss, cheered her wildly. Later, Mme. Karsavina was carried by her husband, Mr. 11. J. Bruce, to her waiting car, and driven to nn osteopath in Hertford Street, W., where her foot w*as manipulated. Mr. Bruce told a Daily Chronicle r *' presentative that Mme. Karsavina will not be able to appear for a fortnight, as she requires nt least ten days’ rest before she can dance again. Mme. Karsavina was appearing in a special Beethoven centenary tribute, the ballot “Prometheus.” Because of her accident the Colisieuni managem.'nt was obliged to cancel the whole turn, as her dancing was the principal feature. It thus became necessary to find a .substitute performance of approximately equal popular favour at very short notice. Eventually, by arrangement with the Victoria Palace, Layton in 1 Johnston, the negro singers, were onigaged to complete the programing.
