PERSONAL [ From the “ Chronicle’s ” Special ' Correspondent. J Mr and Mrs G. Glenn, of Wanganui, are visiting Mangaweka. Miss Arrowsmith has returned to Auckland. Mrs and Miss Bonnor have returned from Rotorua. The Commissioner of Girl Guides for the Mangaweka district, Miss Newcombe, was in Mangaweka on Saturday for the purpose of enrolling Guides. FOOTBALL The footballers journeyed to Taihape ( on Saturday to play a match against | the Junior Old Boys resulting in a win j for Mangaweka by 17 points to 3. i ST. MARTIN’S CHURCH The annual meeting of parishioners of St. Martin’s Church was held last week, and was well attended. The Vicar, the Bov. W. Langston presided. The election of officers resulted: — Vicar’s warden, Mr L. Weston; People’s warden, Mr H. N. Waymouth; vestrymen, Messrs G. Cowan, J. Graham, F. Noble, G. Toms, L. G. Smith, F. Hammond, L. A. Bailey, and J. Lamson. After the election of officers the Rev Langston thanked the parishioners for their kindness in extending to him self and family a hearty welcome, to his new parish. He especially thanked Mr G. Cowan for his services in acting as supply and also the Sunday School teachers and all other Church workers. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB The Miniature Rifle Club’s weekly shoot was held on Wednesday evening and was well attended. The results are as follows: —J. Slade (7) -6, 11. Rogers (9) 25, Miss Waugh (10) 25. In the shoot off for second place H. Rogers scored a bull’s-eye against Miss Waugh’s one. CLOSING OF CROQUET SEASON On Saturday the final A and B croquet matches of the season were played and Mrs J. Smith (sec) presented the trophies for matches played throughout the year. Mrs J. Phillips proved the winner for the A matches (Mrs J. Smith’s trophy), Mrs W. Davidson second (Mrs Phillips’ trophy). A and B matches Miss Harrison 1, Mrs A. Bailey 2. (Mrs J. Fletcher’s trophy). Miss Roache 3. A dainty afternoon tea was dispensed at the termination of which a presentation was macle to Mrs J. Smith, secretary, in recognition of her services to the Croquet Club. Mrs D. Watkins (president) presented Mrs Smith with some stainless knives. LORRY BURNT Messrs Peachy and Hardy, contractors, lost their motor lorry on Saturday. The lorry went over the bank on Te Kapu Road and caught fire being totally destroyed. Both occupants jumping clear, escaped injury. BOY FALLS OVER LEDGE On Sunday the youngest son of Mr S. Knight, while out bird shooting with
an air gun, fell over the "bank of thnj Rangitikei River, struck a ledge and was precipitated into the river, a fall of 60 feet. Assistance was forthcoming j and he was taken home on horseback. | Then extent of his injuries is as yet | unknown.
