MARTON

ANZAC DAY OBSERVED AT HIGH I SCHOOL [ From the “ Chrenicle’a ” Special ! Correspondent. ] Anzac Day was observed by the pupils of the Marton District High School at a ceremony in the school assembly hall. The proceedings opened with a short reminder of the purpose of the gathering by the headmaster (Mr H. L. Wilson), after which the National Anthem was sung. Then followed a reading appropriate to the occasion from the Book of the Prophet Nehemiah. A portion of the Child’s History of the War was then read, followed by the singing of Kiplings “Recessional.” The monitors of all classes then laid floral tributes at the foot of the Honours Board, and all stood at attention while the School Roll of Honour was read by the senior prefect. After this a silence of one minute was observed, and before dismissing, the hymn “Soldiers of Christ, Arise” was sung by the pupils, who later attended the public service at Marton Park. Their tribute to the fallen, the letters A.N.Z.A.C. in red white and blue flowers, was much admired. GEORGE O’BBIEN IN It was the first real spring day in Hollywood. Everyone on the streets was dressed in light, summer clothes. At the big William Fox West Coast studios things hummed along at a busy clip. A number of companies were working m the big stages. Other companies, a little more fortunate, were out in the great open spaces on “location,” and a few were at the beach making bathing scenes. George O’Brien, playing the leading role in “Havoc,” to be screened at the Marton Town Hall to-morrow night, was also working. His was not a role of the great open spaces, nor was it a bathing scene, although a sequence that required George’s presence at the beach at that particular time would have been welcome.
