MAKING REPAIRS
FRANCE’S POPULATION RESTORING WARTIME LOSSES. Received April 29. 8 p.m. (Sun Cable). PARIS, April 29. Official statistics show that France’s pre-war population is gradually being restored. It was 40,745,000 last year compared with 39,200,000 in 1920 and 41,470,000 in 1913. There has been a slight but steady increase every year since the war, and, contrary to the popular belief, the birthrate has not strikingly declined. It was 188 per 10.000 in 1926, compared with 192 in 1913. The infant death rate is still comparatively high, though in 20 Departments it was last year below that of 1925.
