CORDIALLY WELCOMED
AUSTRALIAN MISSION Very Friendly Reception in American Gties CAPITAL AND LABOUR IBy Telegraph—Per Pres* Assn.—Copyright.! Received April 29, 10 p.m. (A. and N.Z.) NEW YORK, April 2S. The Australian Industrial Mission was given a remarkable reception at Hartford, the Mayor, Mr Norman Stevens, having invited 300 manufacturers, merchants, bankers, labour leaders and social workers to meet the Australians. The representative reception indicated the happy industrial conditions in the State of Connectitcut. Mr Fred Gauthier, president of the Labour Council, said that while the Union and the employers differed in some things, they always came together as one body on such occasions as the ▼isit of a delegation. Responding to the speech of welcome by the Mayor, Mr McNeill said the generosity extended to the Mission was overwhelming. Americans throughout the tour had treated them as brothers. They had become great friends, and although their visits to most of the cities had been brief, their farewells were quite touching. During the three days’ visit to Waterbury and one day at Meriden the Mission was busy inspecting numerous brass and cutlery industries. All were open shops on piece or bonus work, the majority working 55 hours a week. The employees were satisfied.
