MILK SUPPLY
“JERSEY SPECIAL’’ AUCKLAND HOSPITAL EPISODE (Special to “ Chronicle ”) AUCKLAND, April 27. “We thought we were getting a special Jersey supply at Is 9d a gallon,” said the chairman of tho Auckland Hospital Board. “Oh, No,” said the milk vendor. “You were getting a Holstein supply.” “That’s all very well,” replied the chairman, “but does the Holstein supply allow you to be below the standard set by the Government ’ ’ According to Mr W. Wallace, this was the conversation he had with the vendor of “special milk for the children’s ward at the Auckland Hospital. The vendor’s services were dispensed with by the Board last night, when the Pathological Department supplied a report which compared the “special” supply unfavourably with the general supply. On two occasions, the “special” milk had proved by test to be suitable for drinking, only after pasturisation. Two samples had been below the legal limit of 3.25 per cent, of milk fat. “It has shown a glaring deficiency,” said tho chairman.
