A BOMBSHELL
'THE OLD ORDER CHANGETH” PROGRESSIVE PARTY’S SUCCESS The results of the Municipal elections yesterday came as a bombshell to many people, and the voting shows a direct reaction to past policies. Mr W. J. Rogers was elected to the Mayoralty by 151 votes, and although there are a few declaration votes yet to be counted, these will make no difference to the final figures. The City Progressive Party scored a win in nearly every election, their entire ticket being elected for the Harbour Board, while of the new council eight members stood under the party’s banner. The final results were not made known until nearly mid-night, the last figures to come in being those from the Drill Hall. The central booth was a hive of industry while the returns were being counted, and the Returning Officer (Mr L. Pleasants) and his assistants deserve credit for the organisation which prevailed. Detailed results are to be found on page 8.
