CHANGING OPINIONS
Sir, —As a lover of the Bible, > was shocked to read, especially from a bishop (Dr. West-Watson) that there arc unquestionable discrepencies in the Bible, noth in science, history and literature. 1 judge him io mean not in translation, but in the Book itself. Such an expression is extremely dangerous, for in my experience that rs the first thing slated for nor. believing in. Scripture as Goo’s word. I have never met one yet that could show a. discrepancy. They sometimes quoted such men is the bi., bop to substantiate their statement. lam not qualified to speak of science or literature, but I have understood from those who are just iho opposite of its historical ajid prophetic history. I have not found one discrepancy during my many years of study that could not ■’.<• solved. Un- ! doubtedly there aic mrors of ir,<nslation, insertions by copyists, but certainly no contradiction If Bishop Watson believed that thd British Empire people and the State’s people were mostly descendants of tho ten lost tribes of Israel, and as God. says, “The stranger (naturalised) shaft be as the homeborn,’’ and that tno Jews are only part of the tribe of Judah and Levi, ho would find no historical discrepancies. For the presentday history of the British Empire and the prophetic history of Israel correspond exactly. Such belief is large} y held throughout the Empire and by princes, statesmen, bishops, clergy, etc. We were always taught, and many think so now, that the whole of Israel are Jews, and that all God’s promises were meant them. Thc/so who think so now must find the promises not easy of solution. For the history of the Jews and the history of (British) Israel arc as far apart as tTio poles and yet arc joined together in God’s purpose. Apply the words of the Bible to thetr objective correctly, and all difficulties are solved at once. But therein lies the difficulty. The statement that Israel was to become “the chief of nations. •’ and that she was to bo at that tftne, “a nation and a company of nations” was fulfilled by the British Empire and we know by that that the Empire is Israel. The history of tho Jew is well-known, a people never lost, scattered among tho nations, and will bo so till Christ comes, though some will return to Palestine. J.H.H. March !), 1927.
