HEAVY ENTRIES AT ADDINGTON. PRICES SLACKER. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 9. At the Addington market, heavy entries were again forward to-day but they were scarcely so large as last. week. Store Sheep.—Most of the large store sheep entry were ewes from the North Island, a big proportion being 2-tooths. The market slipped back on the previous sale by 2s to 3s. a head, and passings were abnormally heavy. A big share of the purchasing was done by operators from south of the Rangitata River, and but for this element it would have been a sick sale. Lambs were back by Is 6d a head. The continued lack of rain is causing unusual caution on the part of buyers. Best forward lambs sold to 19s, fairly good rape lambs 15s 6d to 17s, medium lambs 13s 6d to 15s, small and inferior lambs Ils to 13s, cull lambs 9s to 10s 6d. good three-quarter bred mixed sexed lambs

20s, inferior halfbred ewe lambs 18s 6d to 21s, good halfbred wether lambs 17s 6d to 20s, best North Island 2-tooth ewes to 32s 3d, good North Island 2tooth ewes 26s to 28s 6d, inferior North Island 2-tooth ewes 24s to 25s 6d, lower conditioned 4, 6 and 8-toothed crossbred ewes 16s to 19s, sound and failing mouthed halfbred ewes 20s to 24s 6d, 2-toothed halfbred ewes 345, good forward 4, 6 and S-toothed half bred wethers 22s sd. Fat Lambs.—A small entry of 2600 head and a good sale, values being a shade in advance of the scheduled rate for export. Extra prime sold to 28s 104, prime 24s 6d to 26s 6d, medium 22s to 24s I<l, light 20s to 21s 9d.

Fat Sheep.—A small entry and a sound sale for all sorts, export, ewes particularly. There was no quotable change in values. Extra prime wethers sold to 32s 7d, prime wethers 26s to 28s 6d, medium wethers 24s to 25s 9d, light wethers 21s 6d to 23s 9d, good prime ewes to 23s 4d, prime owes 18s to 21s, medium owes 14s 9d to 16s 9d, light ewes 13s 6d to 14s 6d, aged ewes 10s .6d to 12s 9d. Fat Cattle. —A total of 550 was yarded, and the sale was one of the sales of the year for all classes, except a few particularly well finished steers and heifers. Some of this class made up to 355. a 1001 b., but the bulk of the general quality beef was from 30s to 32s 6d, with heavy from 26s to 28s and inferior down to 255. Extra heavy prime steers sold to £l5 2s 6d, prime medium weight stecs £l2 0s 6d to £l4 10s, medium quality steers £9 to £ll 10s, light steers £6 10s to £8 15s, extra prime heifers to £l3 17s 6d, prime heifers £7 10s to £9 ss, medium heifers £5 5/s to £7, light heifers £4 5s to £5, extra prime cows to £l3 12s 6d, prime cows £6 5s to £8 ss, ordinary cows £4 15s to £6, rougn cows £3 17s 6d to £4 10s.

Vealcrs.-—Runners to £6 15s, good calves &5 to £5 15s, medium £3 10s to £4 17s 6d, small and inferior 10s to 25s’. Dairy Cattle.—A slacker sale. Good second to fourth calvers £8 10s to £l2 10s, others £3 10s to £B, good heifers £6 10s to £lO. Store Cattle. —A line of 2-year steers made £6 and yearlings £2 13s 6d, cows to £4 10s.

Fat Pigs.—A large entry and slightly lower values. Choppers fetched £3 to £4 10s, baconers £3 7s to £4 14s, average price per lb. 5d to 6ld; porkers 45s to 565, average per lb. 7d to Bd. Store Pigs.—A pronounced drop in values, particularly for weaners. Weaners fetched 12s to 235, stores 23s to 40s, extra large to 535, sows in pig £3 10s to £4 2s 6d. SALES AT BURNSIDE. FAT CATTLE EASIER, SHEEP RECOVER. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 9. At Burnside to-day fat cattle eased some shillings and sheep recovered. Otherwise, prices were little altered. Sheep.—A penning of 1929. The fair yarding included a good many lots of medium weight prime ewes, a fair proportion of well finished wethers, and some light sheep. It was a bright opening, and though the demand was irregular, it was fairly keen. Heavy ewes were finally Is dearer and wethers by from Is to 2s. Prices were: Extra heavy wethers 30s 6d to 335, prime heavy 27s 6d to 28s 6d, light 21s to 23s 3d, best ewes 23s to 255, medium 15s 6d to 16s 6d, light Ils 6d to 13s; prime wether mutton made 5d to s|d per lb., prime ewe 4|d, aged 4d. Lambs.—A penning of 636, including some lambs of fair quality, but mostly comprised of unfinished sorts. Inquiry was from quiet to fair, and prices were much on a par with last week’s rates. Heavy lambs fetched 27s to 28s 6d, prime 24s 6d to 26s 6d, medium 22s to 23s 3d, unfinished 16s 6d to 19s; lambs made 7d to 8d a lb.

Fat Cattle. —A yarding of 260, with an excellent entry of prime bullocks and cows and a few pens of medium quality animals. The opening demand was slack and some offerings were passed. Prices were from 12s 6d to 15s easier. Rates were: Prime bullocks £ll 10s to £l2 17s 6d, heifers £5 10s to £B, cows £4 15s to £7 10s; extra prime ox beef made 34s a 1001 b., light ditto 325, prime heifers 30s, cows and light heifers 22s 6d to 255. Store Cattle.—A yarding of 270, constituted almost entirely of cows of mixed quality. Two consignments of bullocks were passed at auction. Values were unchanged. Pigs.—A small penning of 65 fats and 66 stores. Fat pigs realised about last week’s rates, while stores showed an improvement of 2s.

Clearing Sale. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report, having held a successful clearing sale on account of Messrs Sinnett Bros., Karioi, on Tuesday. A line of 800 m.s. lambs realised 14s, cull lambs 6s 6d, m.a. ewes 19s 6d, 2|-year, P.A. cross steers £5 6s, steers £3 16s, 2|year heifers £2 14s, lj-year heifers £1 14s, coloured 2-year heifers 30s, aged I draught horses £8 2s 6d to £l5 ss, wearling and 2-year draughts £lO to £IC 10s, hacks 30s to £2 10s.

ASHHUBST SALE Messrs Abraham and Williams Lt<|. report on th© Ashhurst sale on Tuesday, as follows:—A full yarding of sheep came forward and met with good competition, everything being sold under the hammer. A small yarding of cattle sold at late rates. We quote: —Sheep: Good 4 and 5-yr ewes 16s, 16s 3d to 17s; 5-yr ewes 12s 7d to 13s 9d; mixed 2-th to 25s 7d; good ram lambs, 12s, 13s 7d, to 16s; medium lambs, 9s 3d to Us; cull lambs 7s 3d; S.D # rams, aged, guineas to 3 guineas. Cattle: Store cows £l, £1 10s to £2; bulls £2 ss.
