RELIEF WORKS
FOR CITY UNEMPLOYED COUNCIL’S ASSISTANCE The fortnightly meeting of the Wa> ganui City Council was held last evening, when there were present: The Deputy-Mayor (Mr C. P. Brown) and. Crs. B. T. Bennett, C. H. Burnett, W M. Falconer, W. J. T e Gilberd, W. M Luxford, J. Morrison, C. W. Poynter, T. H. Rice and A. H. Rodgers. Apologies for absence were received from the Mayor (Mr Hope Gibbons) and Crs. T. Carlyle and (J. Spriggens.
The Deputy-Mayor stated that relief work would be put in hand very shortly and a number of unemployed people in Wanganui would be engaged. A letter was received from the Wanganui Harbour Board agreeing to cooperate with the City Council in connection with the repairs to tho Taylorville Bank. The Board had offered a quantity of shellrock for the work. The Cpuncil expressed its thanks to the Harbour Board for its co-operation. The wash-out was a most unfortunate business and the letter of the Board was in full keeping with the spirit among local bodies in Wanganui.
