There are no foreigners m the Montmartre. Lights are out and tho cafes axe closed. Fantastic prices are charged for dishes, previously the attraction of the tourists. One strawberry costs a florin ,and asparagus 10s. Ordinary wines have been doubled in price and fine wines are increased while customers are scanning tho menu. Berlin is a city of blazing lights. Night life is the gayest in * Europe. Cabarets and dancing saloons are springing up amazingly, and the streets aye thronged after midnight. The city a bewildering maze of illumination and diversity of entertainment, in the hope of achieving distinction of being tne centre of the glittering night life. The lights aro not lowered until dawn, when the other Berlin rises to its feet, the Berlin of work, fasting, and frugality.
