Wanganui at present possesses a gifted entertainer in Mr Wightman McCombs, relieving manager at His Majesty’s Theatre. At yesterdays Rotary Club luncheon Mr McCombes, who was a guest, held the attention of Rotarians with a clever little sketen and a performance on his one-stringed violin. In his character sketch no “made up” in quick time as a merry nonogenarian and afforded his hearers much amusement. In a recent New Zealand film Mr McCombes took tho part of Sir George Grey.

Flickering of the lights in the city early last evening was a reflex of trouble at the Evans Bay sub-station, Wellington. Owing to the shortage of water at Mangahao the Government now has- all sub-stations linked together, with the result that trouble in one becomes common to all Last night a series of oscillations surged over the wires to Wanganui, throwing the alternators at the Wanganui powerhouse “out of stes.” The resulting pulsations in the supply to consumers were very noticeable, but were neither serious nor prolonged.

Wanganui motorists are still proving very slow to apply for tho new orange and black number plates required after the end of this month. So far the number of applicants at the local distributing office has been negligible, and a rush at the end of the month appeals probable. The result will be inconvenience for motorists and the postal officials as well. While they are getting their new issue of number plates motorists are required to renew the driving licenses issued to them by the local licensing authority.
