Dr. M. Kronfeld, of the Wanganui Hospital staff, returned yesterday from fJannevirke,

Mr G. Buckley, conductor of the Queen Alexandra Band, is at present visiting Wellington.

Messrs H. Howe and M. McCoomtes were guests at the Wanganui Rotary Club’s luncheon yesterday.

Captain W. S. King, who has been spending a holiday in Wanganui leaves for Christchurch this morning.

Mr F. J. Spora, of the Tourist Department’s Auckland branch, arrived in Wanganui yesterday. He is in charge of the tour of the New South Wales bowlers.

Sir Thomas Mackenzie, late High Commissioner, who has been absent from New Zealand for 15 months,’ returned to Auckland yesterday by the liner Tamaroa from London.

Messrs J. Coates, J. McCoomb, M. McGregor, G. Clapham, J. Andrews, <j. Gardner, J. Cullinane, L. Hunt and R. Howarth were among Wanganui visitors to the speed races held at Muriwai beach, Auckland on Saturday.

Captain J. B. Rainey, of Wellington, who is on the staff of the Commonwealth and Dominion Shipping Company, leaves Wanganui for Napier today. Captain Rainey returned to the city yesterday from a brief visit to New Plymouth.

At the monthly meeting of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce last evening a motion of sympathy was carried relative to the death of Mr W. S. Dustin. It was also resolved to forward a letter of sympathy to Mrs Dustin.

Mr Nesbit Smith, a well-known former resident of Wanganui, who has returned to the city, was yesterday elected a member of the Wanganui Rotary Club. Up till recently he was president of the New Plymouth Rotary Club.

The funeral of the late Mr W. T. Dustin was held yesterday morning and was attended by a great number of mourners. Many local institutions and athletic societies were officially represented, and the masses of floral tributes testified to the deceased’s wide popularity.

A great deal of interest was added to the visit of the New South Wales bowling team to Wanganui yesterday by the presentation of New Zealand champion rink certificates to Mr J. Benefield’s St. John’s rink. The certificates were presented by Mr J. W. Hardley, Dominion President of the Bowling Council, during the progress of the tournament between New South Wales and Wanganui.

In consequence of her recent illness Lady Alice Fergusson has been ordered a complete rest for the next two lor three months, and therefore will be unable during that time to carry out her usual duties and activities. Their Excellencies are obliged to abandon their visit to Christchurch in April. The Governor-General will take leave of the Duke and Duchess of York at Bluff on March 22, and thereafter will visit Maniototo County. During April ho will carry out such engagements in the South Island as he has already made.

At the opening of the wharepuni, Tuhirangi, in its new location at Putiki on Saturday, Mr W. Potaka, wellknown in Wanganui football circles, as welcomed home from his recent tour in the United Kingdom and Franco with the Maori Rugby team. Mr Potaka spoke ,appreciatively of the welcome tendered him by the Putiki Tennis Club. * He was glad to be among his own folk again and he wished the [tennis enthusiasts all success in their [forthcoming tournament at Easter.
