THE McCARTHY TRUST

GIFTS TO CHURCHES METHODISTS WILL ACCEPT NO MORE [Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, March 4. A decision was made by thc New Zealand Methodist Conference to-day to take no further advantage of thc benefits of the T. G. McCarthy Trust, in view of the fact that it was stated that it derived much of its revenue from interests allied to the liquor trade. A lengthy discussion was held in committee on a remit from Hawke’s Bay and Manawatu Synods strongly protesting against the Wellington Methodist Charitable and Education Endownmcnt Trust applying for money from the McCarthy Trust for the Masterton orphanage which has received £2OO a year for the past three years. On the conference resuming in open council it was stated that no further advantage of the trust would be taken and that this year’s application for a donation for the Masterton orphanage would bo withdrawn. It was decided that if an amount had already been granted it would be returned.
