MUNICIPAL PICTURES Victorien Sardou’s famous success “Diplomacy’* shows again to-night at the Opera House in the form of a Paramount production directed by Marshall Neilan. The picture is heralded as a particularly absorbing story of political intrigue and features such popular players as Blanche Sweet, Neil Hamilton, Arlette Marchal, Matt Moore, Arthur E. Carewe and Earle Williams. The locale of the story is laid in Deauville, Monte Carlo, and other famous European resorts. “A vivid story of love and intrigue,” is the way Marshb.ll Neilan speaks of his new Paramount production. Luxurious settings characterise the film and the theme vividly depicts the mysteries caused by foreign political bgents. With the strong vein of mystery runs an attractive romance which numerous complications cause to become all the more absorbing. In the Deauville sequence, Marshall Neilan specially engaged the well-known Carl Hyson and his dancing partner, Peggy Harris to appear. ’Phis particular set is an exact reproduction of Deauville’s famous casino and its glamour and luxury are completely shown. Players of all nationality are cast in the film, and although the cast of players is a large one, only three are United States born, the remainder coming from such widely different countries as Armenia, France, Japan, Ireland, Russia and Austria. Box plans for reserves are obtainable at H. I. Jones and Son ’s„ Entrants for the “Samson of the Circus” serial competition are reminded that the results will be declared this afternoon. Entries will be received by the manager of the Opera House until 2.30 p.m. to-day. FAREWELL BAND CONCERT At Cook’s Gardens to-night the cycling sports and the farewell appearance of the Queen Alexandria, Band before leaving for the Wellington contests, which start on Monday morning, should attract a large assemblage. The contest music will be played hnd the band will give a marching demonstration of the quickstep march. The band ore f» rtunate in having the services of Sergeant-Major Anderson bs drummajor, who holds probably the finest record of any drum-major in the Dominion. The cycling races will include some well-known riders of the Wanganui Professional Club and many novelties will be included.
