GENERAL NEWS [ From the ** Chronicle’s ” Special Correspondent. ] Messrs Hogg and Varney when returning to Hunterville on Friday evening from Moawhango, met a car coming from Mangaweka on the hill near Toi Toi land pulled to the side to allow it to pass. On the side to which they went was a bad culvert. This gave way and the car overturned with its occupants, who, however, received nothing worse than a shaking. Another passing motorist brought them back to I’aihape. A horse belonging to Mr J. Donohue, bolted on Saturday morning with his young son. The horse eventually fell ami the lad received a bad shaking, and was taken to the hospital. Some cull lambs sold at Morrisons ’ clearing sale on Friday for 9s 3d, yet lamb is still being retailed at Is a pound in the local shops. Miss N. Mickleson, daughter of Mr and Mrs T. Mickleson, Tirirakawa, was the recipient of a- handsome travelling rug and umbrella from the residents of the district prior to her leaving. A very large number of people attended the function. The Rev. Father Doolaghty made tho presentation and during the evening some exceptionally fine musical items w-ere rendered, interspersed with dancing. Supper was prepared by the Indies and was much appreciated. At 2.10 p.m. on Saturday the Taihape Eire Brigade were called out to a grass fire in the Domain on Matarofe Road, which may have caused considerable damage but for the prompt attention of the firemen, who speedily extinguished it. During the operations in renovating the ‘ 1 Times” office on Saturday morning a sheet of iron fell from the roof and struck one of the carpenters, J. McCarthy, on the arm, inflicting a nasty gash. He had to have five stitches inserted.
