TOWN BOARD MEETING The usual monthly meeting of the Waverley* Town Board was held on Wednesday. Present: Messrs R. P. I Palmer (chairman), E. C. Dallison, A. J. Adlam, W. Wicks, W. Heginbotham, J. E. Palmer (clerk). Correspondence was dealt with as follows: Spraying—From Patea County Council stating that they could not spare their spraying plant but had approached ■ the Borough Council for the use of their plant, and had received a promise : to let the Waverley Town Board have I the use of it at the end of February for the purpose of top-dressing the main street. —This was considered satisfaci tory a.nd arrangements will be made ;to carry out the work of repairing main i street early in March. i Influenza—From the Department of I Health re influenza precautions, asking , for the assistance of the Board in case ! of necessity, such as supplying a role 'of names of V.A.D.’s who would be | available for work in houses and hos- | pitals. * ‘ Clerk of Works—From the Main I Highways Board, stating that, in coni nection with main highways construc- | tion, it was decided that the appointI ment of clerk of works must in future be approved by the Highways Board, as ; his salary carried a £ for £ subsidy, | and also to insure that the work was I carried out according to the Main I Highways standard.—Received. Tenders.—lt was decided to call tendI ers for the painting of the cemetery [fence. Tenders to close on February 28. Rates*—Resolved that all outstanding rates not paid by March 31 will be sued for with an additional 10 per cent, added. Cemetery.—Owing to the difficulty of obtaining a grave-digger at short notice it was decided to appoint the Board’s surface man until such time as a suitable man can be found. Engineer.—Mr W. P. Wallace, engineer to the Board, waited upon the Board, with regard to his notice of termination of service, which is not due for a month. Mr Wallace stated that he wished to be released at once, if possible, as he intended starting business on his own account. He offered to supervise the Board’s power plant until • such time as the Power Board takes over control.—lt was decided to release Mr Wallace on condition that he art as honorary engineer to the Board until the Power Board takes over control of the Town Board’s plant. This to take effect from March 10. Surfaceman.—Mr Heginbotham suggested that an extra surfaceman be employed for a month to assist in cleaning out water tables.—lt was decided to give Mr Heginbotham power to employ a man when necessary for a month or so. Accounts.—Accounts amounting to £B2 10s 3d were passed for payment. WAVERLEY DOMAIN BOARD At a meeting of the Domain Board, Mr Wicks reported that he had made arrangements to have the Recreation Grounds cleaned up for the forthcomin annual show. He said there were a number of stumps which required to be removed. This was left to Messrs Wicks and Palmer to attend to. WAIROA DOMAIN BOARD Owing to the practice of pers removing tables and forms from the public cook-house on the Wairoa Domain for use in their own camps it was decided by the Board to erect notices prohibiting persons from removing same, also that the practice of storing campers’ furniture in the cook-house must cease, as the building was erected for the use of the general public, and not as a store room.
