- THE GRAND GREAT COMEDY PICTURE—“THE WILDERNESS WOMAN” Aileen Pringle, Lowell Sherman and Cheater Conklin carry off the acting honours in “The Wilderness Woman,” which will be shown for the first time at the Grand Theatre today and to night for a three-days’ session. The picture offers Miss Pringle her first opportunity to break away from the queen and vampire type of role with which she has been associated in the past, and to reveal a talent for comedy. As the Alaskan miner’s daughter, uncouth and unversed in the ways of society, or even of modern society, who comes into violent contact with the conventions in New York City, she presents a figure at once amusing and appealing. Lowell Sherman appears as the hero, while others who appear in the cast are Henry Vibart and Robert Cain. <f The Wilderness Woman” wms originally published in. the “Saturday Evening Post.” The supports will include Tom Tyler and his three pals—the kid, the horse, and the dog — in “Wyoming Wild Cat,” an outdoor picture full of comedy and romance. Alberta Vaughan, a new comedy star, will be seen in "The Adventures of Mazie.” The plan for to-night is now open at Grand Theatre office. MUNICIPAL PICTURES California boasts of a wide variety of scenery but it failed to produce African jungles in sufficient quantity to supply the demand for Douglas MacLean ’s latest Paramount comedy, “Hold That Lion.” Since it was impractical for the comedian to go to the Dark Continent for the real thing, several square miles of imitation Africa were constructed at the studio land local colour was supplied by a large family of lions, several chimpanzees and twelve or so negroes. In order to get the desired effect in the episode where Mac Lean is pursued over a wide ta,rea by a very real and unsociable lion, it was necessary to contract long vistas of jungle and a complete nlative village. Against this background, Director William Beaudine staged the hair-rais-ing chase in which the star is the principal victim but in which Constiance Howard, Walter Hiers, Cyril Chadwick, Wade Boteler, and George Pearce also share honours and danger. “Hold That Lion” shows at the Operti House tonight and on Wednesday in conjunction with an excellent feature “Who is the Man ?’ ’ Douglas Mac Lean’s newest success is an exhilarating and entertertaining comedy. Reserves are obtainable at H. I. Jones and Son’s.
