ALLEGED ASSAULT

WOMAN IN HOSPITAL ATTACKED ON ST. JOHN’S TTTT.T, AN UNKNOWN ASSAILANT Miss Ross, a resident of Aramoha, was admitted to the Wanganui Hospi tel last night in a semi-conscious state. According to her statement she was assaulted by a man on the oathwsv leading up St. John’s Hill at the head of Victoria Avenue, at. about 9 o’clock. It appears that Miss Ross was coming down the pathway after a visit to her sister, Mrs Morgan, on St. John’s Hill, when she was accosted by a man and struck with a stick. Some little while later, she was discovered, lying on the path, by another man, a Palmerston North visitor to Wanganui. The matter was reported to Constable O’Brien, of the St. John’s Police Station, and Miss Ross was removed to the hospital. She has injuries to her head, and it will be ascertained to-day, when an X-ray examination is to be made, whether there is a fracture of her skull. Her condition is not serious.
