CYCLE BOAD BACE (From the ‘ 1 Chronicle’s 1 ’ Special Correspondent). Following are the handicaps for today ’s cycle road race twice round the Crofton block, about 10 miles. The race will start at the White Hart corner at 3 o ’clock land finish at the Rangitikei Motors Ltd. corner:—R. Cleve, H. Ball and P. Griffiin scr., F. Stephens, R. Bland and Williams Imin, F. Gibbons, J. Mcßeth, Grey and Grenhalgh l|min, Kaye, Bryan and Copeland 24min, Mitchell, Irwin, and Mercer 3min, Dickson and Adlams 3£min, Baker and Cairncross 4min, Lewis, Watts and Lewis smin. This race will count for the points prize, a bicycle presented by Mr McKinnon. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The Chamber of Commerce met on Monday evening, Mr F. R. H. Brice presiding. It was decided to support the Taihape Chamber of Commerce’s request, in asking the Government,to contribute towlards the up-keep of the TokaanuWaiouni road. Mr J. A. Bush was appointed to represent the Marton Chamber on the local committee of the Railway Advisory Board. The following resolution was carried: That Mr Bush be asked to bring before the Advisory Boiard the importajjce of retaining the present users of the railway by continuing to keep existing ledger accounts for them and that the : Chamber bring the matter before the , Railway Department. “HAVOC” Before serving in a Canadian regiment in France and receiving many decorations for bravery in action, Captain Arnold W. MacDonald of the technical stlaff of “Havoc,” the William Fox production, which will be screened at the Marton Town Hall this evening, was an operatic tenor and sang in musical comedies under Henry W. Savage, the Shuberts and others in New York. GENERAL NEWS A typographical error occurred in the report of the meeting of the Mlarton branch of the Wanganui Automobile Association, Mr N. D. Anderson was appointed agent and not Mr M. D. McDonald as printed. Mr At. Coleman, who has resided on Silverhope Road for the ptist 30 years, has disposed of his well-known farm, ” Ferndale, ” to Messrs Illston Bros. Mr Coleman intends to reside in Marton. It is stated that Air J. Reid has disposed of his interest in the White Hart Hotel at ALarton to Mr Robert Barlow, liate licensee of the Imperial Hotel at New Plymouth. At the Afarton Junction Cricket Club’s euchre party and dance prizes were won by Mrs Hayward and Air. L. Baker. Music for the dances was supplied by Airs Braggins. The series conclude on Friday evening next, when the aggregate prizes will be awarded. An alteration is made in the Marton District A. and P. Association’s show advertisement, Class 36 (grade Jerseys) should read —Jersey heifer in milk under 3 years. Air A. G. Harris, of Marton, has a full size billiard table and fittings for sale. SOUTH MAKTBIKIBI SCHOOL A meeting of the South Afakirikiri School Committee was held on Monday night, there being present: Messrs A. Stuart (chairman), J. Wing, H. Gudopp, W. Robertson, A. Wasson and the teacher, Mr R. S. Wiatts. It was reported that three pupils of the school—-Gladys White, Arthur Sigi nal and Harold Wing—had obtained proficiency certificates. Arrangements were made for the school picnic to be held in the school grounds on “break-up dtay”—Friday, December 17. HAWKE CUP RANGITIKEI-MANAWATU ELIMINATING MATCH The above match will be played on the Marton Cricket grounds to-day, commencing at 11 o’clock. Following are the teams:— Manawatu. —Cooper (R.S.A.), Gallichlan, Ingham, Kells (Railway), Broughton, Diederich, Spring (Old Boys), Norris, Smillie (High School), Donaldson and Afurdoch (Feilding).
