EVADING DRILL

A MILITARY DEFAULTER. SUBSTANTIAL PENALTY IMPOSED At the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., Peter Walker, 26 years of age, appeared to answer a charge of : breach of the Defence Act in that he failed to register. For the. past 12 years he had evaded the military authorities. The Magistrate remarked that it was the worst case of its kind that had come under his notice. Walker was fined £lO with costs. For a similar offence, John Walker was fined £3 plus costs. He failed to attend parades for the past three and a half years.
